How it is worked out

Every country is counted on the same 40-hour week and 4.33 weeks a month, so the comparison is about pay rather than national working hours. A purchase costs its price divided by the hourly wage; a working day is 8 hours.

Czechia, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Sweden do not use the euro. The sources publish their figures in euros, converted from the national currency. For petrol and electricity the exchange rate largely cancels out, because wage and price are converted alike; for the iPhone, priced in euros, it counts in full.
